"There have already been some outstanding sets, though – collections of French songs and Schubert lieder by the French baritone Gérard Souzay, Stephen Kovacevich playing Brahms piano concertos, Alicia de Larrocha in Falla's piano music, Charles Dutoit conducting Stravinsky – as well as this set of concertos, played by the greatest oboist of our era.” The Guardian.
Newton Classics, the Dutch-based CD label, was founded in 2009 by Theo Lap to return old friends to the classical music lover, these ‘friends’ being fantastic recordings sourced from the vaults of major record labels, most of them unavailable for a substantial length of time.
The stated aim of the company is to build a catalogue of around 1,500 titles, which includes brand new recordings from 2012/2013.
Albion Media promotes the label through obtaining reviews in the national press (recent reviews include The Independent and The Sunday Times) and the classical press.
Albion Media also worked on raising Newton Classics’ profile in the UK by maintaining a presence online for the label, creating a Facebook page, designing the Twitter page and a blog as an extension of the Newton Classics brand.
