Marin Alsop

Alsop has the goods: a compelling vision of how she wants a piece of music to sound and the ability to draw that sound from a body of players.” Chicago Sun Times

Marin Alsop made history in 2007 with her appointment as Music Director of the Baltimore Symphony, becoming the first woman to head a major American orchestra and mirroring her ongoing success in the U.K. where she’s Conductor Emeritus of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra.

The first artist to win both Gramophone's "Artist of the Year" award and the Royal Philharmonic Society's Conductor's Award in the same season, Alsop was named to a MacArthur Fellowship (the first conductor to receive this prestigious American honour) and won the Classical BRIT Award for Best Female Artist that year. She has also received the Royal Philharmonic Society's BBC Radio 3 Listeners Award and a European Women of Achievement Award. In autumn 2008 Marin was inducted as a fellow to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

Albion Media has managed Marin Alsop’s PR since 2005 optimizing the phenomenal success she has enjoyed since her appointment at Bournemouth in 2002 by building her profile in the classical music press and then focusing beyond creating her name in the mainstream press. In the 2009/10 season Albion Media worked with the Southbank Centre’s PR team while Marin was Artistic Director of their Bernstein Project on getting her interviewed in every major national newspaper and on numerous radio stations.

Albion Media’s role with Alsop has now been extended to coordinate her international PR schedule whilst still focusing on building her name as an international cultural figurehead.

THE BRIEF TO ALBION MEDIA
Albion Media first became responsible for Marin Alsop’s public relations in 2003 during her time at the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra. APPROACH and ACHIEVEMENTS

By focusing on Marin Alsop’s unique qualities as a conductor, communicator and educator, Albion Media has played a central role in establishing and growing her reputation in the specialist music media -- for instance with frequent interview appearances on both Radio 3 and Classic FM -- and in the mainstream media: coverage has included interviews in every major quality newspaper in the UK.

In the UK she became one of the select group of artists to have presented an entire evening on Classic FM in the UK – the result of an initiative by Albion Media – while her directorship of the Bernstein Project at the Southbank Centre has resulted in widespread coverage, with features in media such as The Sunday Times, Daily Telegraph, The Independent, The Spectator, BBC Radio 4 and BBC News TV.

Marin Alsop was Gramophone's Artist of the Year in 2003, the same year in which she received the Royal Philharmonic Society's Conductor's Award. Her other prizes include a European Women of Achievement Award, a Classical BRIT Award for Best Female Artist and the Royal Philharmonic Society's BBC Radio 3 Listeners Award.
