Colin Currie

“Colin Currie's athletic playing was as dazzling and persuasive as the work itself.” The Guardian

The leading percussionist of his generation and soloist of choice for composers from Steve Reich to Rautavaara, Colin Currie has been the driving force behind new percussion repertoire for more than a decade. Acclaimed for his virtuosity and musical integrity, Currie is a solo and chamber artist at the peak of his powers. Championing new music at the highest level, Currie has appeared with many of the world's leading orchestras, the Concertgebouw Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Philharmonia Orchestra and London Philharmonic among them.

Highlights for 2012 include the release of landmark percussion concerto recordings, James MacMillan’s Veni Veni Emmanuel with the Dutch Radio Orchestra conducted by the composer, as well as the world premiere recording of the Rautavaara percussion concerto Incantations with the Helsinki Philharmonic, both in March. Also that month, Currie will give the UK premiere of the Sally Beamish percussion work Dance Variations with the Scottish Chamber Orchestra, followed by the world premiere performance of the Kalevi Aho percussion concerto at the Royal Festival Hall in April.  In May, Currie premieres the Joseph Pereira percussion concerto with Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic while in June he will perform the US premiere of Elliot Carter’s concerto for percussion and piano with the New York Philharmonic.
